The Central Presbyterian Church youth group, Epsilon Theta, conducted the Easter sunrise service on Memorial Island at Columbian Park, Lafayette, Indiana, in 1955.

The fresh-faced teens, prepped and propelled by Caroline and directed by Lee Bingham, filed onto the amphitheater stage as the processional hymn “Crown Him with Many Crowns” was played on the borrowed electric organ. A permanent sign rose above the proscenium that read, “A Living Memorial.”

The Monday after Easter 1955, Reverend Dayton McCormick penned a letter of gratitude to Kirby and Caroline. It read in part:
